Squiggly Twigs Designs Pattern Review

Finding a great pattern can be difficult at times. It often involves too much time standing at a counter pouring through books of patterns. Who has the time for this when all you want is a cute little pattern for your darling girl?

Squiggly Twigs Designs has a solution to this problem!

An online blog site that not only offers great sewing tips and advice but also has some very cute patterns available for purchase.

I recently contacted the owner, Debbie, to do a review of one of her patterns. I love sewing and sometimes I get so caught up in 'business' sewing that I dont make anything for myself or my family. I decided to try the pattern for the 'Pretty Peasant Dress'.

This pattern retails for $6.00 USD and can be made in any size from 6 months-size 10.The patterns are sent to you by email and I quickly received the downloadable file from Debbie.

I opened the email and have to tell you I was a little discouraged by the 40 pages of the file. I opened the file though and soon realized that there were so many pages because the pattern was separated into sizes. There wasnt one graded pattern of all sizes-each size had its own piece. Yes-only one pattern piece is needed to make this dress.

After reading the instructions I was able to construct my pattern very quickly. It involves you printing out the pattern piece size of your choice (larger sizes need two pieces to be taped together), taping this printed piece to a larger piece of paper, taking your size measurements and drawing two lines onto the larger piece of paper. You decide the length of the dress (top if you make it shorter) and the length of the sleeve. The sleeve uses the exact same pattern piece but is shorter.

I chose two black and white flower prints for the dress. I used one as the main body and one for the sleeves. I added a quick trim of pink around the 'bust line' to make it a big more 'girly'.

The instructions of the pattern are fairly easy to follow and even involve ideas on how to change the dress or add decorative details. I did find that the placement of the 'extra' tips was a little bit distracting when trying to follow the directions. I would have preferred to find them at the end of the directions in their own section versus in the middle of everything.

I think this dress took me about 30 mins to complete from pattern drafting to completion. For a beginner sewer I think the whole process could still take under 2 hrs.

I love the results of this pattern! The dress turned out very cute and the sizing was perfect. I think there is so much you could do with this pattern. I am already planning to use this pattern to make some pretty shirts for my daughter with a silky fabric-perfect for the holiday season!
